Located 200 metres from Launceston’s city centre, The George Hotel is surrounded by some of Tasmania’s most iconic landmarks, from City Park, The Gorge, Seaport precinct and the University of Tasmania Stadium to cafes, shops and cultural sites.

More than just a place to stay, The George is the result of local vision, passion and a deep connection to this city’s history.

The hotel is the passion project of a Launceston-family, who have owned and operated the neighbouring Colonial Launceston Hotel since 2003. With strong roots in the community, they began drafting plans for The George in 2022.

Driven by a desire to offer something new to the local accommodation scene, and to celebrate the heritage of Launceston - their vision began to shape.

Set within a National Trust-listed building dating back to 1847, The George has been designed to honour the past whilst embracing the present. Original features have been thoughtfully retained, and modern comforts integrated, creating a boutique hotel experience. Where old-world charm truly meets contemporary.
