Our Vision & History
The vision
At The George Hotel, our vision is to offer an elevated accommodation experience that celebrates Tasmanian heritage, local connection, and modern comfort.
We believe great hospitality is rooted in authenticity, in spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and true to their surroundings.
We’re committed to staying local - from tradespeople who brought the building to life, to the small businesses we partner with every day. Supporting the Launceston community is part of who we are, and it’s what makes The George feel genuinely connected.
Looking ahead, our vision is to be a space that both locals and visitors are proud of. A hotel that offers more than just a place to sleep, it’s a base for exploration, a nod to history, and a testament to everything we love about Tasmania.
THE SOUL OF THE GEORGE
The History
The George Hotel sits alongside one of Launceston’s oldest buildings, originally constructed in 1847 and once home to Launceston Church Grammar School.
Today, that National Trust-listed building forms the main entry to the hotel, housing reception, guest lounges, and dining venues.
The architecture and interiors throughout The George have been intentionally designed to echo the elegance of the adjoining heritage buildings, while introducing modern comfort and timeless sophistication.
The design language draws inspiration from Renaissance cues, with a traditional colour palette of deep forest green, burgundy and beige, paired with arched shower screens, brass accents, custom timber joinery, fluted and curved wall panelling, and soft, ambient lighting.
Technology is integrated seamlessly for ease and comfort, without compromising the overall aesthetic.
